Welcome to Trauma-Informed Hotel™

Meet the founder

Jessica Muñoz, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), New York

Founder, Trauma-Informed Hospitality™
Specialist in Gender-Based Violence Risk & Retraumatization.

Jessica Muñoz is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York and the founder of The Business of Healing™, creator of Trauma-Informed Hospitality™ — the only hospitality-specific gender-based violence and trauma certification integrating active clinical practice with real-world hospitality operations leadership.

clinical rigor

She specializes in sexual assault, coercive control, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Jessica actively practices trauma treatment through her independent private practice, maintaining responsibility for diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal trauma care, and provides clinical supervision to trauma clinicians in training. This ongoing clinical work provides direct visibility into how trauma symptoms present in real time — and how institutional missteps escalate risk, liability exposure, and lethality.

Her clinical background includes emergency department triage, neurological pediatric intensive care, and inpatient psychiatry at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian (Columbia University Irving Medical Center), in addition to outpatient trauma treatment and field work with individuals managing serious mental illness.

hospitality operations experience

Prior to her clinical career, in the early 2000s, Jessica worked in luxury hospitality operations, serving in a management role at the Soho House New York, the brand’s first U.S. location. She later served as a fine dining Maître d’ across Manhattan, overseeing front-of-house flow, guest experience, and service sequencing in high-pressure environments. She also contributed to the launch of The Angler's Boutique Resort, Miami Beach, which achieved a #1 TripAdvisor ranking shortly after opening.

This combined clinical and operational foundation informs her ability to translate trauma literacy into real-time hospitality judgment — where subtle guest behavior, staff response, and environmental cues determine safety outcomes, brand integrity, and revenue protection.

visible survivor leader

Through Trauma-Informed Hospitality™, Jessica operationalizes early risk detection and boundary infrastructure across front desk, security, management, and executive leadership. Her framework identifies risk formation before escalation — protecting guests, staff, and brand reputation while strengthening long-term trust.

She also serves as a survivor-leader with Sanctuary for Families, the nation’s leading legal services provider for survivors of gender-based violence, and was the keynote speaker at the organization’s 40th Anniversary Benefit in 2024. This work brings lived, cultural, and systems-level expertise into her prevention framework.
